Robert Bateman and a Silhouette

Feb 10, 2014

“I can’t conceive of anything being more varied and rich and handsome than the planet Earth. And its crowning beauty is the natural world. I want to soak it up, to understand it as well as I can, and to absorb it. And then I’d like to put it together and express it in my paintings. This is the way I want to dedicate my work.” – Robert Bateman

Robert Bateman is an acclaimed Canadian wildlife painter who is dedicated to the environment and conservation causes. As a child he was fascinated by the natural world and has been inspired by nature throughout his career.

For our project we were inspired by the falling snow outside our class window and used liquid watercolour and spray bottles filled with water to make our snowy background. Next the students added pine boughs and created their own silhouette of a bird perched in the tree.
