Day 9 – Time to get busy!

May 9, 2020

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day and it’s not too late to make a card for that someone special in your life. Nothing says “I love you Mom” like a homemade card! As a Mother of 3 children myself, I know that these hand-made cards are what I look forward to most on Mother’s Day.

Maybe you had great plans for Mother’s Day that you cannot do this year. My own Mother would often say to me “the smallest good deed is better than the greatest intention.” I have learned today that this quote comes from John Burroughs and I think it’s very fitting for right now. So, with this in mind, let’s forget about what you may have intended to do and get busy creating a beautiful home-made card.

For this project, all you need is brightly coloured pieces of construction paper, scissors, glue and coloured markers or crayons. If you have been following our blog posts and making gelli plate prints, you can use these as well. If you don’t have construction paper on hand, that’s OK, you can colour blocks of colour on copy paper and cut out triangle mosaics.

After your pieces have been cut out, arrange them how you like on the card and then glue them down with glue stick. One of my favourite parts of this card was the many many layers of coloured diamonds glued one on top of each other.

Have fun making art today for Mom or someone special in your life! Thank you for following along with sparking creativity every day in May with Art in Action. Send us a picture of what you create to artinactiontoronto@gmail.com. Follow on Facebook and Instagram for more inspiration.
