Day 17 – Easy Toronto Cityscape

May 18, 2020

Let’s be inspired by the beautiful skyline of our cities, in my case Toronto. First I taped a piece of watercolour paper in a landscape position to a piece of cardboard. Next I used a piece of masking tape to create a horizon line.

You will need two brushes to do this project, a fan brush and a watercolour brush.

I used liquid watercolours in magenta, violet and blue to create a night sky with my watercolour brush. Once the paint was on the paper I used a fan brush (starting on the bottom) and sweeping across the page like a broom to the top to blend and even out the paint.

When the paint is almost dry but still glistens under the lights I sprinkled a tiny bit of table salt on the paint. This is created the stars that you can see below. When the paint was completely dry I peeled the tape up and lined it up with the horizon line and taped it down again.

I then used the blue watercolour paint to create water below the horizon line.

Next, a small paint brush and black acrylic paint were used to create the city scape.

And you are finished! Remove all the tape when the paint is dry.
