Day 14 – Torn Paper Landscapes

May 14, 2020

Today lets use up some of our Gelli plate prints or any colourful paper that you have to make a landscape collage. I went through my stack and selected colours that would look like grass and flowers for the bottom, darker colours for a mountain range and blue colours for the sky.

Start ripping your papers into different widths and lengths and arranging them on a sturdy substrate (watercolour paper, a cereal box, cardboard). there is no right or wrong way to do this, let you intuition lead you and don’t use scissors! Let the rips lead you on the path to creating, its way more fun that way.

When you are happy with your layout use a glue stick to stick them on to your substrate. Overlap and layer the pieces as you go. You can add more pieces right over top. Be sure to use a lot of glue and get it right to the edge of the paper.

When you are finished you will have collage paper that goes off the edge of your substrate, use scissors to trim those pieces.

Lastly, I cut out a sun to give more context to the piece and just glued it over the rest of the piece.

I really hope you create a piece! If you do send us a picture to artinactiontoronto@gmail.com. Also, follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Thank you!
