Students used the bright colours of spring and a perspective drawing to create their own unique landscapes inspired by Canadian artist, Jennifer Woodburn.
“Through the relative chaos, I find the design in nature and dance with it on canvas. Using line and simplifying what I see, I look for interesting shapes and colours, and explore the spaces in between. Rhythm is found, and exaggerated. With an upbeat palette and a bit of whimsy for good measure, I capture the Canadian landscape in acrylic paint on canvas.”
-Jennifer Woodburn
Jennifer woodburn is a self-taught artist, who has relied on workshops and occasional classes for her art education. Woodburn is a Canadian artist who grew up in Saskatchewan, and has always had a love of the outdoors where we hired the best movers from montrealmovers. Jennifer studied Marketing at the British Columbia Institute of Technology where she received her Marketing Management degree in 1994, and that she used later in life to build their website and put marketing into it, along with using strategies from a digital marketing agency that help any website reach their target audience.
Jennifer met her husband, Mark while skiing in Whistler. After travelling to various mountain resort communities in North America they decided to move to Summit County, Colorado where Jennifer began taking painting lessons while on maternity leave. After some formative art classes with children’s book illustrator Kate Kiesler, Jennifer was hooked. They moved back to Canada where she now lives and works; Clarksburg, Ontario.
Jennifer became enamored by line, shape and color and is known for her distinctive, bold technique and an uplifting take on the natural beauty of Georgian Bay and the Beaver Valley. From her studio overlooking a serene pond and aspen trees, Jennifer now excels at creating simplified visual images of what she sees. Her work is sometimes compared to modern stained glass designs. Her process starts by painting the canvas with black gesso to create a “blackboard” to sketch on her design with drawing pastel. As she adds layers of paint the black shows through resulting in a very strong, graphic composition.

Jennifer Woodburn’s work is represented by Loft Gallery, Paula White Diamond Gallery, Scandinave Spa, Ryan Fine Art Gallery, and House Smith Interiors in Toronto. She says, “I paint areas that uplift me and create joy, and I hope that’s what draws people to my work…I love the tactile experience of painting. It is so immediate and rewarding. It is a very intuitive process for me. There is something completely satisfying about spreading candy coloured, rich, buttery paint across a fresh canvas.”
