Runnymede: In-Class Bridge Projects

Apr 22, 2018

For the past several weeks we have been creating with the students of Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School artwork that was inspired by the theme of bridges.

In the kindergarten classes we presented the French artist, Claude Monet and created our own Japanese bridge inspired by his famous paintings from Giverny, France.

The grade one’s used more materials and created a different piece inspired by Monet:

With students in grades 2 – 4 we learned about the 6 major types of bridges: beam bridge, truss bridge, cantilever bridge, arch bridge, suspension bridge, and cable stayed bridge.

We were inspired by the longest suspension bridge in Canada, The Lion’s Gate Bridge in Vancouver.

We also created a perspective bridge:

And with the grade 5’s we learned that ancient Roman’s built many strong and stable bridges. We were inspired by the Old Mill bridge that spans the Humber River.

Thank you to the staff and students for participating in the project. The results were amazing!
