When the shutdowns and lockdowns began we were worried that kids would lose out on opportunities to paint, draw, and create by joining our art-enrichment classes in-person and we were more than a little unsure about how successful online classes would be…almost two years later, we wish we offered these classes sooner! As one person wrote to us:
“ I just have to give you and your team a major “thank you!” for pulling this program together. My daughter wasn’t sure about the virtual version at first, but has been so proud of her creation this week–and we are in awe of it as well! Thank you thank you thank you!” – Gwen
“What’s so great about online classes?” you might ask. Here’s what we’ve found:
- Kids can see the art demonstration so much better. We are up close and personal on your screens and students can see more clearly what we are demonstrating.
- Projects are a little more complicated. With all the supplies provided, we can use more colours and offer more choices than in-class.
- You can create in the comfort of your own home. Art can be intimidating for some, and creating in your own home allows students to be courageous during the art-making process.
- Peer pressure is eliminated. Beginner artists can feel self-conscious about their own work and continuously compare to others around them. Our projects are geared for success incorporating a step-by-step process.
- Artists learn to self-assess their own work. Learning from home fosters more independent learning and allows opportunities for students to problem solve on their own.
- Pre-recorded classes offer more flexibility for learning styles. Let’s face it, some artists paint fast and some are slower. Neither is better, but it can be frustrating for more detail-oriented painters to have to keep up with the pace of the class. Having the option of SLOWING down the pace by being able to pause recordings, rewind, watch again allows for completely stress-free art classes.
- You never miss a class! The importance of this cannot be overstated… students can join in on another class, and prerecorded classes mean artists can still do the class even if they’ve missed it.
We now offer adult classes. For all the reasons listed above – and I think especially creating in your own home allows many adults with such busy lives to find the time to make for themselves and paint. Or even have gifted to them by someone special. We received this google review the other day and it warmed our hearts!
“My daughter sent me the adult kit as a surprise. I never thought I could draw or paint anything. I’m a knitter, and like colours and textures. So I gave it a try. I had everything I needed in the kit. The instructions were easy and straightforward. I loved the video because I could pause it and continue when ready. Both women are relaxed and encouraging. I was very happy with my attempt. My friends were very impressed with my finished art. I highly recommend any of these classes” – Maggie
Online classes are a great option for everyone as we continue on our creative journey. Here is what happening this fall, check out our online classes.
