Jean Paul Riopelle was born in Montreal on October 7th, 1923. He was a painter and sculptor and a leading member of the European Abstract Expressionist movement. Riopelle’s works are in collections around the globe including New York’s Guggenheim Museum and The Museum of Modern Art, the Galerie d’art Moderne in Basel, Switzerland, the Museum of Modern Art in Brazil, Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario, and Ottawa’s National Gallery.
Our classroom became filled with colour as we worked on our abstract layered pieces. Colour, shape, repetition and design were all discussed as we covered our creations using everything but a paintbrush!
