Day 5 – Using your Gelli Prints, a Lesson Inspired by Rex Ray

May 5, 2020

Rex Ray was an American artist best known for his innovative pop aesthetic in fine and commercial art. Today we are going to be inspired by his work with collage. To read about his discovery of this way of expressing himself this is a great article. His colours and simple shapes are very inspiring…

Lets make our own piece!

Supplies you will need:

  • Gelli prints
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • watercolour paper or other heavy paper to adhere to your pieces

Lay out your Gelli prints and decide on the colours you would like to use. I chose a range of blues and purples.

Next, I cut out the papers I wanted to use and started to lay them out to see if I was happy with the colour and textures.

When I was happy with the colours I decided to use an oval shape of different sizes for my creation and cut them out.

After I laid the oval shapes out I glued them on using a glue stick. So easy and so many possibilities. These works can be used to make cards, you could do a whole series and make all kinds of shapes and creations.
