“Where flowers bloom so does hope” – Lady Bird Johnson
Spring is finally painting our streets in the beautiful lime greens, bright yellows and delicious pinks of the season. Let’s be inspired by springs bounty and create a tree filled with blossoms.
Supplies:
- chalk pastels (I used a variety of blues for the background)
- watercolour paper
- brown and black oil pastels
- acrylic paint (pink, red, light pink, orange, and a variety of greens)
- acrylic paint brushes (large and small)
- paper towel
Use your chalk pastels flat on their sides to create a background. Once the paper is filled use a paper towel to blend the colours together.
Using the brown oil pastel to create tree branches that stretch across your page. The black oil pastel can be used to create a shadow effect below the branches.
I used a large acrylic paintbrush to create my dark red centers. There are a million ways you can paint your blossoms, I chose to do mine from my imagination and used a variety of colours but kept the shapes consistent throughout.
I used a smaller paintbrush to stamp (rather than doing a brushstroke I just stamped the paintbrush on the paper) the leaves. I used 3 colours of green (lime green, turquoise, and leaf green).
This one was really fun to do. For inspiration, just go for a walk in your neighborhood and see all the trees that are blooming and filling our streets with colour.
