Georgia O’Keefe – Evening Star

“I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”
– Georgia O’Keefe

Georgia O’Keefe is a famous American painter most known for her beautiful paintings of flowers. She also painted many other subject matter including: city scapes, landscapes of the South West and abstract nature pieces. We used her Evening Star as an inspiration for our piece.

The students did a really good job…I think the late Ms. O’Keefe would be proud.

Georgia O’Keeffe – Ladder to the Moon

“I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”

– Georgia O’Keeffe

We were inspired by the great American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe and her painting, Ladder to the Moon. It is one of her later works, painted in 1958 when she was seventy-one. The students liked the dream-like quality of the piece and learned about oil pastel resists and watercolour washes. The gold paint really sparkles.
