The Legend of St. George and the Dragon




We travelled back in time to the Middle ages and learned about the Legend of St. George and the Dragon. Students drew their own dragons and then used balloon pumps to create the fire that spreads across the castle. Laughter filled our classrooms during this class…

John Howe and Alan Lee – Dragon Inspiration

John Howe was born in 1957 in Vancouver, and grew up in British Columbia He first studied in Strasbourg, France, at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs . He is a book illustrator who became world famous for his work as a conceptual artist for the movie adaptation of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings triliogy. 

Alan Lee  was born in 1947 in Middlesex, England and studied at the Ealing School of Art.  Alan Lee is an illustrator and film designer rendered world famous for his Tolkien illustrations.

Though the two artists collaborated on the Tolkien illustrations, they have become known for certain characters and locations in Middle-Earth.  Their work is typically done with pencil sketches and watercolours. We were inspired by their many dragon creations and created our own…
