Andy Goldsworthy – Leaf Inspiration

“I enjoy the freedom of just using my hands and “found” tools – a sharp stone, the quill of a feather, thorns.  I take the opportunities each day offers: if it is snowing, I work with snow, at leaf-fall it will be leaves.”

-Andy Goldsworthy

Abstract leaves filled our desks this week. The bright colours of fall were first scraped across our paper mixing bright yellow, rich orange and crimson making a stunning background for our pieces. Next we painted in the negative spaces surrounding our leaves with black acrylic paint and finished with a few colourful details.

Andy Goldsworthy inspired our art, he  is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist producing site-specific sculpture and land art situated in natural and urban settings.

Grant Wood – Fall Landscape

“All the good ideas I ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.”

-Grant Wood

Our classroom came alive with bright fall colours as we made our own fall landscapes inspired by the American painter, Grant Wood. We discussed the life and career of Grant Wood and looked at examples of his iconic paintings like, American Gothic, and then got busy creating a colourful landscape. The background was done with chalk pastels, details were added with oil pastels and lastly we added our trees.
